From Technical Proposal to Feasible Project

GRIT is based on a promising Dutch-Ukrainian proposition for grid resilience and building flexibility. The technical premise was strong. The question was how the individual components could be brought together to form a viable project.

Aristoi applied the Alignment Scan to the initial technical design. This revealed the missing links: from host location, partners, and governance to funding, ownership, and the path toward a replicable Dutch implementation.

The result: strategic advice, an initial program and product architecture, and a concrete 90-day roadmap for the next development phase.

A strong idea doesn't necessarily make a project

The technical details of GRIT were rich in content: measuring before investing, building resilience as the first layer, and a potential energy island as the next step. But it was precisely that richness that made the development challenge so great.

Instrumentation, microgrid design, forecasting, incentives, regulations, financing, and market development were still intertwined. What appeared to be technically interconnected required, from an organizational perspective, different parties, decisions, and development paths.

The first knowledge partners were present. However, crucial roles related to the host location, network management, integration, financing, and user representation were still needed for implementation.

The white paper itself contained a strong premise: measure first, then design. The challenge was to consistently apply that logic throughout the entire project design.

Local resilience is one outcome. The second challenge is to ensure that knowledge, data, and methodology can actually be transferred to a replicable Dutch implementation.

From Diagnosis to Program Architecture

The Alignment Scan revealed that GRIT was not a single project, but rather a combination of technical development, local resilience, program design, and market transfer. The next step, therefore, was not to add more content, but to bring order to the project.

1. Alignment Scan

The initial technical proposal was assessed against the following criteria: Ambition, Relationships, Incentives, Strategy, Transformation, Organization, and Impact. For each dimension, open-ended design questions and next steps were identified.

2. Program architecture

The broad proposition has been streamlined into a phased approach centered on GRIT Baseline, GRIT Design, and GRIT Operate. This creates a distinction between measurement, design, and operational optimization.

3. 90-Day Roadmap

The next development phase has been translated into concrete decisions regarding ownership, the first product, local value, data and IP, host location, the DSO route, a minimal measurement pilot, a Dutch launch customer, and programmatic ownership.

The point was not to slow down GRIT, but to be able to decide more quickly what should and should not be organized at the same time.

GRIT demonstrates that a promising technical solution only becomes feasible once relationships, ownership, financing, governance, and market transfer are also organized.
